INNISFIL, Ontario — Coming off a top-10 finish a week ago, things would not go as Robbie Sikes would have hoped on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Starting 12th for the first feature, he would move up to 11th in the early stages, where he’d remain through the middle portion of the event. He would battle hard through the late race restarts, though ultimately lost some ground and crossed the finish line in 12th.
Starting 12th for the second feature, he would break into the top-10 in the early stages, looking to continue moving forward. However, contact with another car at the halfway mark would send the other racer around.
Under caution, the pair of drivers ran closely together, leading race officials to believe there was contact under the yellow flag. Unfortunately, Sikes would be blackflagged for rough driving, ending his feature early. He would be credited with a 17th-place finish.
Despite the rough night, the team remains faithful for the remaining two months of the schedule following three top-10 performances.
With a 50 lap feature on deck for Saturday, August 10 at Sunset Speedway, Sikes will hope to combine patience with speed, and be there when it counts at the checkered flag with a solid run.
