INNISFIL, Ontario — The long winter is over as DY Racing drivers Eric Yorke and Lisa DeLeeuw made their first starts of the 2019 campaign at Sunset Speedway.
For Yorke, he was fast right from the first green flag of the season, finishing second in his first qualifier, before winning the second heat.
Starting fourth in the feature, he would drop back in the early stages, though began to make his way back forward, moving back into fourth by Lap 4. He would then get alongside Dylan Holmes for the third spot on Lap 6, quickly making his way by. After making his way around Mike Robinson Jr. for second on Lap 14, he began to work on tracking down the race leader.
As it looked as though the gap was shrinking, the No. 51 entry shut off, causing Yorke to head down pit road on Lap 19. He was credited with a 15th-place finish.
DeLeeuw also showed potential to kick off the year, placing seventh in both of her qualifying races. Starting 13th for the 25-lap feature, she would avoid the early incident in turn one, and battled hard through the duration of the event, eventually crossing the finish line with a 13th-place finish.
