After showing speed with a couple heat victories through the 2018 campaign, Parker Traves is hoping a new approach to his program will allow him to elevate his program.

“My thoughts entering this season is to have a turnaround year with better luck than last year,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “Over the off season, we completely changed up our program switching over to the new FZ09 motor and rebuilding the whole car. It is definitely going to be a learning curve compared to what we had before but I feel like I have the right people in my corner this year as we have joined the Canadian Legend Cars team.”

The opportunity to work with the Canadian Legend Cars team allows him to work alongside past series feature winners Nick Ledson, Matt Haufe, and Kevin Foisy.

“My goals and expectations would have to be consistent finishes, hopefully in the top 5 every week,” Traves said. “But that’s not going to be easy with the strong field we have this year, where five cars could win on any given night.”

Traves showed potential last year, as noted with the heat victories. He notes to reach the next step, it is about being better prepared each week while making sure to do some testing to get used to the new motor.

Although the season will kick off with trips to Peterborough Speedway (May 18) and Sunset Speedway (May 19), the event at Sauble Speedway currently has Traves the most excited.

“I feel as though it is one of my better tracks as I won the National Qualifier for the Semi Pro division there back in 2018,” he commented.

That doesn’t mean that Sunset is far from his mind, as it will place host to the Canadian Legends Car Nationals for the 2019 campaign.

“We’ve had some strong runs there and improved every time we’ve went there,” he commented. “With the testing we had there last week I think we will be bringing the best car we’ve ever had to Canadian Nationals.”

For Traves, he has always been surrounded by racing as his father has always been involved and got him hooked.

“I was offered to drive a Legend car a few times from Cory Hayward and after that, we bought our first legend car and we’ve been doing it ever since,” Traves said.

Through the past couple of years, there has been several memorable moments, but Traves says the most memorable would be the 2018 edition of the Autumn Colours Classic.

“We had started at the back of the field due to some motor issues that gave us poor qualifying,” he recalled. “I think I started around the 22nd spot and was able to drive up to the top five in less than 20 laps, but unfortunately we got taken out with five laps to go which put an end to our race.”

Ahead of the season, Parker Traves would like to thank Peter Nikolic Concrete Finsing, Canadian Legend Cars, Devo Motorsports, T&M Autobody & TSS Top Shops for their support.
