“Being new to the whole racing scene, I am very nervous but also excited,” Shilling admitted. “I am here to go out and have as much fun as I can.”
With this season being his rookie campaign, he says the goal is to learn how to wheel a racecar, while keeping it one piece through the process. He did add, though, that he expects to catch on fast.
While he doesn’t have the experience himself, he will be surrounded by knowledge as this marks SKLD Motorsports’ sixth season of competition at Sunset Speedway.
“It is a great feeling that I have my father-in-law (Doug Wilman) and others to be able to ask for advice and feedback,” he commented. “I am also grateful for being a new member of SKLD MOTORSPORTS.”
The opportunity also brings forth the dynamic of racing against his girlfriend, as Karlie Wilman will also be competing in the same division as well.
“I think this will be an awesome experience for us and I know whatever happens on or off the track, we will have each other’s backs,” he said.
Shilling’s interest in racing actually comes through Wilman, as she began taking him to the track through the back half of the summer last year. For Shilling, it was “the dedication and how all the race teams are passionate about the sport” that got him hooked.
The pair of them both know they won’t have it easy being rookies entering the division, as seen with several new drivers joining for 2019.
“I believe that there is going to be a high competition level with a lot of experienced drivers and new drivers,” he commented.”
Being new to racing himself, he admits that it’s hard to determine a racing hero, but he has enjoyed watching Doug Wilman, Adrian Foster, and Lance Foster race thus far.
Andrew Shilling’s marketing partners will be announced as we get closer to race season.
