Sometimes when you stick a microphone in front of a driver’s face, you have no clue what they may say and a couple of times you’ll hear something that surprises you or gives you a bit of a perspective.
Throughout the 2018 season, I had the opportunity to speak to a bunch of different competitors. During those interviews, there were some quotes that stood out. So it seems only fitting we take a glance back through the year at what was said.
“We wrecked the car from a oil spill on the track, and then the next week we were put into the wall. The clip was bent. Car was wrecked. I was ready to give up. But my dad and uncle worked on it and convinced me to bend it back the best we could and go. We ended up winning the feature the next week. It was a reflection of how good and the dedication this team has.” – Zack Casemore
“Its a surreal feeling. Racing against guys like Brandon Passer and Justin Holmes all year was a blast! Growing up with the both of them and duking it out on the track together was absolutely remarkable!” – Coltin Everingham
“We are very excited to have teamed up with SCR (Shawn Chenoweth Racing). To enter in to a new class in my mind, you need good equipment and we feel we have some of the best to compete. Just to work with Shawn will be great as the man knows race cars inside and out, as well as the tracks and I can’t wait to learn everything I can.” – Cory McAllister
“We feel we progressed nicely throughout the season running with the extremely competitive Sauble roster. Most nights would run caution free and if you started at the rear staying on lead lap was even a challenge which after the first night we always did. Seeing the progression from running with the pack to running in the middle of the pack was satisfying. Capping the season off qualifying for Autumn Colours through the heats with two fourth places and having a top 15 finish our first time there with this car definitely ended the year on a high note.” – Derek McLean, speaking of Travis’ progression.
It is fun having both Hudson and I racing. Right now we both run different divisions, Not sure how fun it would be if we are both running in the same division? I am sure we would have our challenges as we would be trying to out do each other. But I am looking forward to that day! We do compare ideas back and forth as Hudson used to race the car that I am driving now. I have spotted for him in the Late Model before; it was a lot of fun! – Carson Nagy
“The team has great chemistry and continues to get better every week. My guys and girls that help on the car have a don’t give up attitude, whether it’s a bad night or good. They all give their best effort and for that I’m super proud of them, and our second place finish is because of them. Our program is right where it needs to be; we made do with some old bent parts and old tires.” – Ryan Semple
“Going back and forth (between the Legend and Super Stock) was different I must say, but I look back on it and think to myself it makes you a better driver jumping back and forth. You go from the short wheel base with lots of power for such a light car, and then get into the thunder – big heavy car and lot more power. But it’s a blast racing both.” – Miles Tyson
“To be given the chance to run a Super Stock for Shawn (Chenoweth) was definitely a great opportunity for me to get my feet wet in something other than a mini stock. It meant a lot to go out there and prove I got what it takes to go out and win in a regular basis. And I feel like I did a good enough job to live up to Shawn’s, and my expectations.” – Jake Watson
