PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Despite suffering some damage mid-race, Travis McLean was able to make it to the checkered flag for a top-15 finish in Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic.
McLean began the weekend by placing seventh in his first heat on Friday night, followed by a sixth in second qualifier on Saturday afternoon.
Starting 24th for Sunday’s feature, he’d look to make up ground through the beginning stages, only to suffer contact with another competitor on Lap 18, causing him to go over the turn one hump. He would return to the racing surface, scored tail of the field. The first attempt at a restart produced the race’s second caution for an incident that would include McLean suffering heavy front end damage. He would come down pit road, with the McLean Motorsports team making the necessary repairs for him to continue.
Restarting at the tail of the field, he would begin to make up a little ground before escaping a multi-car crash on Lap 39 without any damage despite several front runners being involved. Restarting inside the top-15 with 11 scheduled laps to go, the restart would see the white and green given, due to the race reaching it’s time limit. McLean battled hard despite that, ultimately crossing the finish line with a 12th-place finish.
McLean also took part in the Young Guns Showcase event on Friday night, scoring a seventh-place finish despite being involved in a mid-race incident.
