Following a top-five finish in the most recent APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour event, Jake Sheridan will head into the 100 Kellogg Lane Championship Event Presented by Maple City Tire at Delaware Speedway on Saturday with confidence on his side.
“We were so close, inches the last time we were there, and that was only our third race,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “I feel like our team has come a long way since then and given how good it is then; we’ve come a lot further since. I think a good run here (at Jukasa) with what we have really proves that. Looking forward to coming back to the home track. Of course, the No. 9 car of Brandon Watson is going to be quick. We just have to hold him off at the beginning, get out front, and hopefully no cautions so we can get away.”
Earlier this month at Jukasa Motor Speedway, Sheridan ran up front throughout the 100-lap event en route to a solid fourth-place finish.
“We had a solid car, definitely through the beginning, but the car did go away a little at the end,” he commented. “We had a bit of struggles, and we got on the inside, and the outside carries so much momentum here so overall, a good finish. A top-five here for my first appearance – that’s good, we’re really happy about that. I can’t thank everybody enough – Vibrant Farms, Leitch Performance Engines and Pride Seed. They gave us a good piece tonight and we were able to battle upfront all night.”
For Sheridan, it marked the fourth top-five as he currently sits fourth in his rookie season of Pro Late Model competition. Sheridan credits the ability to quickly adapt to the new car back to the experience gained through the divisions he competed in previously.
“You learn a lot of car control, and I’ve got it in my genes as my father was really good, too,” he said. “When you come in with a decent car, too, it makes it easier. Ron Sheridan does a great job, so it’s just the whole package and I guess it’s a bit of naturally ability. I just got a decent car, hanging on, and snagging some decent top-fives here. It’s been a good year so far.”
