INNSFIL, Ontario — After being sent for a spin in the first feature, Paul Maltese battled back for a top-10 in the second 35-lap event on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Starting 10th in the first feature, Maltese began to make his way forward, avoiding a blown motor from another competitor to move up into ninth with 26 laps to go. Restarting inside the top-10, he would avoid a spin ahead of him to gain another position to run eighth. The second attempt at a restart saw him battle side-by-side with a fellow competitor for seventh. Unfortunately, it would not go as planned, as contact from said competitor would see Maltese go for the spin in turns three and four.
Restarting from the back of the pack, he began to move his way forward to run 11th as of Lap 20. Unfortunately, he was unable to get back into the top-10 as a flat tire sent him down pit road with four laps to go in the event, ending his race early.
Starting 12th in the second feature, Maltese began to move his forward, escaping an incident on Lap 2 to run 10th. Restarting in the top-10, he’d work his way up to seventh by Lap 6, He would then avoid another incident ahead of him at Lap 21 to move up two more spots to fifth. Restarting inside the top-five, he’d drop back to sixth on the initial restart, battling side-by-side for seventh all the way to the end of the race with various competitors. In the end, he’d edge out Nick Goetz to cross the line in seventh.
The team will be looking for a good run at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, July 28 in the next night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model competition. Maltese has finished in the top-10 the past four weeks.
