Going back and forth throughout the 35-lap feature, Gord Shepherd would score the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model victory at Sunset Speedway.
Gord Shepherd would set the quickest lap in time trials ahead of Nick Goetz, Billy Zardo, Dylan Gardner, Chad Corcoran, Nic Montanari, Mike Wilkinson, Danny Benedict, Ron Quesnelle, Paul Maltese, Al Inglis, Ernie Fumerton, Taylor Holdaway, Jeff Richards, and Paul Geniole Jr. Gardner would drop to the rear before the green flag.
The opening lap saw Shepherd and Goetz battle side-by-side for the lead, with Shepherd grabbing the top spot on Lap 2 ahead of Goetz and Zardo as Geniole headed down pit road. Wilkinson moved into fourth on Lap 3 ahead of Corcoran, Quesnelle, and Montanari as Inglis and Benedict battled for eighth.
Inglis was able to hang tough on the outside of Benedict for the spot for three laps, until his night went up in smoke as the motor blew entering turn one to bring out the first caution. With 26 laps to go, Shepherd led Goetz, Zardo, Wilkinson, Corcoran, Quesnelle, Montanari, Benedict, Maltese, Holdaway, Gardner, Fumerton, and Richards.
The restart didn’t go smoothly as Richards would go around for a spin, but managed to keep it going so there’d be no caution. Instead, the second yellow flag waved two laps later on Lap 11 when Holdaway spun Benedict, collecting Gardner. With 24 laps to go, Shepherd led Goetz, Zardo, Wilkinson, Quesnelle, Corcoran, Montanari, Maltese, Fumerton, Holdaway, Benedict, Gardner, and Richards.
Shepherd got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Goetz, as Wilkinson and Zardo battled for third. Wilkinson got the spot on Lap 12 ahead of Zardo, with Quesnelle and Corcoran side-by-side for fifth, as Maltese and Montanari battled for seventh. Quesnelle would clear Cocoran for fifth on Lap 15, as the battle for seventh for continued.
Unfortunately, the battle for seventh didn’t have a good ending, either, as Maltese would go around for a spin for the third caution on Lap 16. With 19 laps to go, Shepherd led Goetz, Wilkinson, Zardo, Quesnelle, Corcoran, Holdaway, Montanari, Fumerton, Benedict, Gardner, Maltese, and Richards.
Shepherd got a good restart to keep the lead ahead of Goetz, Wilkinson, Zardo, and Quesnelle as Holdaway and Corcoran battled for sixth, with Fumerton and Montanari side-by-side for eighth. Holdaway got the sixth spot on Lap 20, with Fumerton moving into seventh ahead of Benedict, Montanari, Gardner, Maltese, Corcoran, and Richards.
With 26 laps on the board, Shepherd continued to lead ahead of Goetz, Wilkinson, Zardo, Quesnelle, Holdaway, Fumerton, Benedict, Montanari, Gardner, Maltese, Corcoran, and Richards. The battle for the lead got interesting with four laps to go, as Goetz got alongside Shepherd through turns three and four for the top spot, while Maltese headed down pit road with a problem.
The battle for the lead lasted all the way to the checkered flag as Goetz tried each time through the far end of the speedway to make his way past. However, each time, he was unable to clear the No. 10 Late Model.
It’d be Gord Shepherd picking up the win ahead of Nick Goetz, Mike Wilkinson, Billy Zardo, Ron Quesnelle, Taylor Holdaway, Ernie Fumerton, Danny Benedict, Nic Montanari, Dylan Gardner, Jeff Richards, Paul Maltese, Al Inglis, and Paul Geniole Jr.
