Jody Bound Continues Winning Ways at Sunset Speedway

In a dominating performance, it’d be Jody Bound taking the victory for the Outlaw Midget season opener at Sunset Speedway.

Jody Bound won the first heat ahead of Ryan Brown, Jordan Howse, Rick Splawnyk, Jeff Blackburn, and Monty Farrell.

The second heat didn’t start off smoothly, with a wreck on the opening lap involving Dylan Little, Mikey Homewood, Nick Spiez, Wayne McKibbon and Johnny Paradzinski. Richard Woodland picked up the win over Brian Woodland, Larry Lawson, Nigel Buttivant, and Kevin Spiez.

Jody Bound went for the daily double ahead of Brown, Howse, Blackburn, Tom Tyo, and Splawnyk.

The fourth heat saw a couple of mid-race spins, with both Buttivant and Brian Woodland going around. Richard Woodland went for the daily double ahead of Lawson, Kevin Spiez, Buttivant, and Brian Woodland.

Come feature time, it’d be Kevin Spiez leading the field to green ahead of Nigel Buttivant, Jeff Blackburn, Brian Woodland, Ryan Brown, Larry Lawson, Richard Woodland, Jody Bound, Jessica James, Robin McLean, Wayne McKibbon, Jordan Howse, Chris Ruigrok, and Tom Tyo.

The race started off with a battle for the lead between Buttivant and Blackburn, with Buttivant taking the lead as the tire flew off of Blackburn’s midget for the first caution at Lap 2. With two laps in the books, Buttivant led Spiez, Brian Woodland, Lawson, Brown, Richard Woodland, Bound, James, and McLean.

Buttivant got a good restart to keep the lead, with the battle for second going three-wide between Brian Woodland, James and Bound. Bound got the spot, passing Buttivant to take the lead on Lap 4. Howse would then get alongside Buttivant for second ahead of James, as the Woodland brothers battled for fifth.

Howse would take the second spot on Lap 6 ahead of Buttivant, James, Richard Woodland, Brian Woodland, Lawson, Brown, Ruigrok, and McLean. James would then get alongside her teammate Buttivant for third on Lap 9, completing the pass a lap later. Unfortunately, Richard Woodland’s strong run came to an end on Lap 11 as he headed down pit road with a problem.

Jody Bound would lead the field the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory. The battle for the second, though, came right down to the wire as second through fourth went back and forth through the remaining laps of the event. It’d be Jordan Howse snagging the runner-up spot in his series debut ahead of Jessica James, Nigel Buttivant, and Ryan Brown.

Brian Woodland finished sixth, followed by Larry Lawson, Chris Ruigrok, Tom Tyo, and Richard Woodland. Robin McLean finished 11th, followed by Wayne McKibbon, Kevin Spiez, and Jeff Blackburn.
