9th in OSCAAR Pro Midget Points: Gary Triska

After completing the 2016 season with a pair of top-10’s, it is no surprise that Gary Triska put together a solid campaign en route to placing ninth in the standings.

Throughout the season, Triska battled hard in each of his events to gain track position, ultimately scoring five top-10’s in the 12 events. In part, you could describe his year as a roller coaster as he started off strong, fell off a little through the summer, but found some momentum as the year closed.

Although some competitors have tracks which treat them better than others, Triska proved that he can be solid no matter which speedway the series visits.

Ultimately, his best finish of the year – eighth – came in the tour’s lone visit to Sauble Speedway in July. It was a notable result, being his fourth consecutive top-10, if you include the pair from 2016.

When it came to Peterborough Speedway and Grand Bend Speedway, both of those tracks saw him improve from the first trip to the second. At Peterborough in August, he ran at the back for both events. But in returning there for Autumn Colours, he produced the same finish – but found himself ahead of more competitors at feature’s end with a larger field. Meanwhile, Grand Bend saw him turn a 10th and 13th in his first trip into a ninth-place finish in his third trip.

The series also visited a fourth track for the campaign – Flamboro Speedway. With one feature a month, consistency across the board wasn’t found for Triska. But yet, still, he showed speed there like elsewhere with a pair of ninths.

While some of his competitors showed flashes of brilliance but failed otherwise, it was Triska’s consistency from start to finish that allowed him to complete the year with his top-10 standings finish.

On behalf of OSCAAR, congratulations to Gary Triska on a solid season. We look forward to watching you continue to get faster in 2018.
