Thayne Hallyburton Leads Flag-to-Flag in Late Model Feature

While there’s talk of a hurricane in the southern United States, the fans at Sunset Speedway witnessed one of their own. ‘Hurricane’ Thayne Hallyburton dominated the second Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature en route to scoring the victory.

Thayne Hallyburton began the race on pole ahead of Lane Zardo, Rick Spencer-Walt, Ron Quesnelle, Chris Morrow, Taylor Holdaway, Danny Benedict, Travis Hallyburton, Mike Wilkinson, and Paul Maltese. Nick Goetz started 11th, followed by Gord Shepherd, Ernie Fumerton, Kendra Adams, Brittney Gresel, Al Inglis, Jordan Latimer, Billy Zardo, and Jo Lawrence.

Thayne Hallyburton would jump out to the early lead ahead of Lane Zardo, with Spencer-Walt and Quesnelle side-by-side for third. Quesnelle got the spot on Lap 4, with Holdaway getting alongside Spencer-Walt next. The pair remained that way until the race’s only caution flew at Lap 6 for Billy Zardo going around in turn three. With 30 laps to go, Hallyburton led Lane Zardo, Quesnelle, Spencer-Walt, Holdaway, Morrow, Travis Hallyburton, Maltese, Shepherd, Goetz, Wilkinson, Fumerton, Adams, and Latimer.

The restart saw a battle for the lead between Thayne Hallyburton and Lane Zardo, with Hallyburton getting the advantage on Lap 7 after Quesnelle tagged the back of Zardo. Quesnelle and Zardo then battled side-by-side for second ahead of Spencer-Walt, with Quesnelle getting the spot on Lap 10. Spencer-Walt would then follow through two laps later to move up into third.

Morrow was next alongside Zardo, with the pair remaining that way until Lap 14 when Morrow cleared him for fourth. Behind them, Holdaway ran sixth ahead of Shepherd as Travis Hallyburton and Goetz battled for eighth. Shepherd got alongside Holdaway for sixth at Lap 16, as Goetz cleared Hallyburton for eighth. Lawrence then got alongside Hallyburton for ninth a lap later, as Benedict and Latimer rounded out the top-12.

Shepherd was able to move up into sixth on Lap 19, with Goetz getting alongside Holdaway next. Things got interesting a lap later with a three-wide battle for fourth between Morrow, Shepherd and Zardo. Morrow held serve, while Shepherd moved up into fifth as Goetz got alongside Zardo on Lap 21. Shepherd made short work of Morrow, though, passing him for fourth on Lap 24.

At the front of the field, Thayne Hallyburton continued to lead as Spencer-Walt got alongside Quesnelle for second with 10 laps to go. He was unable to complete the pass, though, falling back in line in third ahead of Shepherd. Behind then, Goetz moved into fifth, with Lawrence alongside Morrow for sixth. Lawrence got the spot with six laps to go ahead of Morrow and Zardo.

The battles continued throughout the field as Holdaway and Travis Hallyburton battled for ninth with five laps to go ahead of Latimer, Benedict and Fumerton.

Thayne Hallyburton led the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Ron Quesnelle, Rick Spencer-Walt, Gord Shepherd, and Nick Goetz. Jo Lawrence finished sixth, followed by Chris Morrow, Lane Zardo, Taylor Holdaway, and Travis Hallyburton. Jordan Latimer placed 11th, followed by Danny Benedict, Ernie Fumerton, Mike Wilkinson, Paul Maltese, Brittney Gresel, Kendra Adams, Billy Zardo, and Al Inglis.
