Scoring the pole in time trials, Nick Goetz led every lap en route to picking up the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature victory on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Following qualifying, Nick Goetz started on pole ahead of Billy Zardo, Gord Shepherd, Thayne Hallyburton, and Lane Zardo. Dwayne Baker started sixth, followed by Ron Quesnelle, Travis Hallyburton, Kendra Adams, and Paul Maltese.
Jordan Latimer started 11th, followed by Danny Benedict, Brittney Gresel, Chris Morrow, and Taylor Holdaway. Rick Spencer-Walt started 16th, followed by Mike Wilkinson, Al Inglis, Ernie Fumerton, and Jordan Lawrence.
The initial start saw a battle for the top spot between Goetz and Billy Zardo, with Goetz getting the lead on Lap 2 ahead of Zardo, Shepherd, Lane Zardo, Quesnelle, and Travis Hallyburton. Hallyburton then got alongside Quesnelle for fifth on Lap 4, completing the pass two laps later. Quesnelle now ran sixth ahead of Baker, as Maltese and Thayne Hallyburton battled for eighth.
Maltese got the eighth spot on Lap 8, with Thayne Hallyburton and Adams now rounding out the top-10. Behind them, Latimer and Gresel battled for 11th ahead of Benedict, with Holdaway taking 13th on Lap 10. Further up the field, Shepherd got alongside Billy Zardo for second Lap 11, completing the pass a lap later as Travis Hallyburton passed Lane Zardo for fourth.
With 13 laps on the board, Goetz now led ahead of Shepherd, Billy Zardo, Travis Hallyburton, Lane Zardo, and Quesnelle. Hallyburton then got alongside Billy Zardo for third on Lap 15, completing the pass two laps later.
The first caution then flew on Lap 18 with Fumerton spinning Adams in turn four. At the halfway mark, Goetz led Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton, Billy Zardo, Lane Zardo, Quesnelle, Baker, Maltese, Thayne Hallyburton, Holdaway, Spencer-Walt, Gresel, Morrow, Latimer, Wilkinson, Inglis, Fumerton, and Adams.
Goetz got a good restart to hold serve ahead of Shepherd, but the yellow flag flew again on Lap 20 due to Quesnelle spinning in turn two, courtesy of contact from Lane Zardo.
Goetz got another good restart ahead of Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton and Billy Zardo, with Maltese and Baker side-by-side for fifth. Baker got the spot on Lap 23, followed by getting alongside Zardo for fourth. He would get that spot also, clearing him two laps later. Behind them, Maltese and Holdaway battled side-by-side for sixth, with Gresel and Spencer-Walt side-by-side for eighth.
Holdaway would move up into sixth on Lap 28 ahead of Maltese, Spencer-Walt, Gresel and Morrow as Latimer and Thayne Hallyburton battled for 11th. Latimer got the spot, with Benedict looking to follow him through. Spencer-Walt was set to continue moving up, getting alongside Maltese for seventh, when the caution flew on Lap 31 for Fumerton spinning on the backstretch. With five laps to go, Goetz led Shepherd, Travis Hallyburton, Baker, Zardo, Holdaway, Maltese, Spencer-Walt, Gresel, Morrow, Latimer, and Thayne Hallyburton.
Goetz got another good restart to keep the lead ahead of Shepherd, with Travis Hallyburton and Baker side-by-side for third ahead of Zardo and Holdaway’s battle for fifth. Oh, and the battles happened through the field as the checkered neared, with Spencer-Walt back alongside Maltese for seventh.
