Kyle Batty Scores Ontario Pro Challenge Feature Victory

Taking the lead at the halfway mark, Kyle Batty led the rest of the way en route to scoring the Ontario Pro Challenge Series victory at Sunset Speedway.

Paul Klager won the first heat ahead of Larry Majerie, Dale Wilson, Mike Johnston, and Steve Garry.

Kyle Batty won the second heat ahead of Tim Norris, Bryan Stevanous, Rick Sealy, Peter Hattin, Tim Batty, and Tom Norris.

Paul Klager went for the daily double ahead of Garry, Wilson, Majerie, Tim Shanahan, and Johnston.

Come feature time, Larry Majerie led Tim Shanahan, Paul Klager, Mike Johnston, Dale Wilson, Steve Garry, Bryan Stevanous, Peter Hattin, Tim Batty, Rick Sealy, Kyle Batty, Tim Norris and Tom Norris.

The drop of the green flag saw a battle for the top spot between Majerie and Shanahan, with Majerie taking it on Lap 2 as Klager got alongside Shanahan for second. Shanahan would then get back alongside Majerie for the lead a lap later, with Klager three-wide with Johnston and Wilson for third. However, the caution would fly as a result of Stevanous and Kyle Batty coming together.

The restart saw a battle for the lead between Majerie and Klager, with Klager taking the top spot on Lap 3 ahead of Majerie and Shanahan. Johnston would then get alongside Shanahan for third a lap later, with Johnson taking it on Lap 5. It wouldn’t last long, though, as Kyle Batty passed him on Lap 6, before passing Majerie a lap later to move into second.

Majerie now ran third ahead of Johnson, with Sealy getting alongside him on Lap 8 for fourth ahead of Tim Norris and Wilson, as Hattin and Shanahan battled for eighth. Johnston was able to hold onto fourth, with Norris getting alongside Sealy for fifth. Johnston, meanwhile, would get alongside Majerie for the third position.

Johnston took third on Lap 12 as Norris and Sealy continued to battle. Norris then cleared Sealy, followed by getting alongside Johnson a lap later. Norris then moved into third ahead of Sealy and Johnston.

At the front of the field, Batty tracked down Klager for the lead, getting alongside him for the top spot at the halfway mark. He then cleared him a lap later to take the top spot on Lap 16. Klager now ran second ahead of Norris, Sealy, Johnston, Wilson, Majerie, Hattin and Shanahan. Wilson then got by Johnston for fifth on Lap 19, with Majerie following him through.

Marjie then got alongside Wilson for fifth on Lap 21, completing the pass as Johnston got alongside Wilson next. Johnston was unable to complete the pass, though, falling back in line in seventh at Lap 24. Johnston then tried to take over the position once again, with contact happening this time around resulting in the second caution with five laps to go.

Kyle Batty got a good restart, leading the rest of the way to score the victory ahead of Tim Norris, Paul Klager, Rick Sealy, Larry Majerie, Steve Garry, Tim Shanahan, Bryan Stevanous and Tom Norris..
