Paul Maltese Scores Top-Five at Sunset Speedway

While the results did not come together as Maltese Motorsports would have hoped, they were able to come away with a top-five finish in one of the features on Saturday night.

Following last week’s feature, Maltese started the first 35-lap feature affair from the fifth starting spot. In the early stages, he would drop back to ninth spot, he avoided the trouble that plagued other competitors to move up to eighth with 21 laps to go. He was then able to move up another spot when another competitor blew a motor on Lap 20, though slipped back to eighth with 11 laps to go.

Restarting just inside the top-10, he would move up to the sixth spot, avoiding a wreck ahead of him to move into the top-five with six laps to go. From there on, he held off a late charge from behind to cross the finish line in fifth.

Looking to carry the momentum forward, he would lay down a lap of 15.350 seconds in time trials to qualify 13th for the second 35-lap event. Starting just outside of the top-10, the beginning of the race did not start off well as he’d make contact with the inside frontstretch wall on Lap 5, but managed to keep it from being too heavily.

Running near the back of the field, he began to make up some ground, racing side-by-side with Taylor Holdaway for 12th at Lap 25. He would fall back a couple spots, though, crossing the finish line in 14th.

Starting 14th for the third feature, he was unable to make up much ground as he’d cross the finish line in 14th.

While there has been some rough notes throughout the year, he has posted four top-10 finishes, including a pair of top-fives. He will look to continue running strong next week on July 1 in the next night of competition at Sunset Speedway.

Maltese and team are proud to be supported by Presto Appliance Repair, Delmeade Construction, Paragon Office Installations, Leitch Performance . Blue Sky Contracting and Landscape, Ontario Steel Sales, Essies Poultry Farms, Auto Trim Design, and OAS.
