After a solid rookie season in the APC Auto Parts United Late Model of Ontario Tour, Shea Gemmel is set for his sophomore campaign in 2017.
“With the upcoming season for the APC Series, I’m really looking forward to it,” he told Short Track Musings. “I got a good opportunity with a good sponsor, North Country Property Maintenance. We purchased a new car at McColl’s; hopefully it’ll be done for the first race, and we’re going to run that all season and show some good things.”
Going into the season, Gemmel is keeping expectations in perspective, hoping for a couple top-10s over the season. With a full slate of tracks on the schedule, there’s excitement in getting to Jukasa Speedway, as well as his home track – Delaware Speedway. The 2016 season finale at Delaware treated him well with his first career APC top 10 finish – a ninth. In total, he finished 13th in points with six top-15 finishes.
“Last year was a more of a learning curve,” he said. “It was our first full season in a pro late model. The amount of stuff that you learn, it’s hard to take in all in a year. But by the end of last year, I felt I was progressing from where I was at the beginning. We had a couple stronger runs at the end and just so excited to get this season finally started.”
