Like many drivers, the thought process on the 2017 season is simple for Shawn McGlynn – “Can’t wait till it’s get started.”
McGlynn enters the 2017 APC Auto Parts United Late Model of Ontario Tour coming off a solid season, which saw him finish 15th in points with four top-10s, including a third place finish at Sunset Speedway in June.
“We had some good position in some races, and then had some breakdowns,” he told Short Track Musings. “If we would’ve finished races and avoided repeat issues like battery problems and stuff like that – I think if we get these little things that are sidelining us taken care of, and I think we do now, we should have a real good season.”
With using the off-season to work out the bugs and further improve, McGlynn enters the season hopeful that he can park the No. 23 Meineke, Davidson Custom Broker, JMB Sales Late Model in victory a couple times.
“That’s our goals and I think we’re going to be able to achieve them,” he said. “I’m going to put in a lot of time in testing and we’re going to have a good, fast car.”
As to whether there’s a favourite track to snag a win, that isn’t quite the case with McGlynn as he loves them all, but notes “being able to go to Jukasa again is going to be awesome.”
It’s also worth noting that getting to victory lane will be no easy feat as there’s at least 15 other drivers who could easily snag a win that very same race, not including the faces joining the tour this season.
“It’s very popular and there’s a lot of good talent coming in again,” McGlynn said of the series. “There’s a lot of good talent there last year so you are just going to see better racing than you saw last year, too. So it’s a pretty cool class to be in. Good equipment, a lot of good cars, a lot of good drivers, a lot of good teams – kind of the place to be right now.”
