The schedule releases keep on coming as Delaware Speedway released their schedule for the 2017 season earlier on in the week.
From top to bottom, it seems every Friday night through the summer will offer enough entertainment for the racing fan. With variety at each turn, it seems as though they’ve found a knack for appealing to each of the fan’s temptations.
The big news, for a bunch, is the pro late models returning as a regular weekly division. Over the past couple years, it has been missing for fans – but track officials chose to remove the division due to low car counts. With the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour revitalizing pro late models in the province, it seems only fitting time to have them return to the fold.
The schedule features some changes from what was followed in 2016, as the new year will start out with a pair of big events, different than normal. April 15 will open the season with a 150-lap Bone Stock Enduro. The racing season will open for the rest of the divisions, as well as Open Wheel Divisions, with a big invitational over the course of April 28 and 29 with the Spring Nationals. With only Sunset Speedway appearing to be the only other track operating as of that weekend, the car counts should be high with drivers wanting to shake off the winter ice.
A big highlight for the year focuses around June 3 as the NASCAR Pinty’s Series will make their long-awaited turn to the half-mile in London, Ontario. It marks their first race there since 2013 when Pete Shepherd III picked up the victory. The other big touring series to hit Delaware this summer will be the ISMA Super Modifieds, as they make their only Canadian stop on August 19.
After thrilling fans last year, the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour will visit Delaware Speedway on two occasions, both in the form of marquee events. The first will come on Canada Day alongside the Open Wheel Modifieds and Ontario Legends Series, with the second appearance as part of the Great Canadian Race Weekend on September 15 and 16. Like in past seasons, the GCRW marks a huge invitational format way to close out the season for the late models, super stocks, trucks and V8 Stocks.
As the same with the years, the GCRW will be followed by the Pumpkin Smasher, with the newly formed ICEMAKER 150 Bone Stock event set to close out the campaign.
