Jr Farrelly Scores Dayco 100 Victory at Sunset Speedway as Shaw Motorsports Goes 1-2-3

INNISFIL, Ontario — Dale Shaw put the world on notice when he scored the victory in the Junior Hanley Classic last September at Sunset Speedway. He came back to the 1/3-mile semi-banked oval eight months later, and made history with his team Shaw Motorsports sweeping the top-three spots in the APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series Dayco 100 on Saturday.

Jr Farrelly led the field to the green flag, and took full advantage of the track position in his hands in front of a field of hungry drivers. He was challenged heavily throughout the final 50 laps, with the first of those coming from defending series champion Kyle Steckly. Then came his teammate Blair Wickett, with both fighting for a shot at their first career APC checkered flag.

The final five laps, though, were the most intense, with Dale Shaw trying to get alongside and make his way by for the victory. He was never able to clear his teammate, coming up short at the checkered flag in his bid for glory. Farrelly, a long-time regular at Sauble Speedway, got to enjoy his first career series victory.

Shaw, a past series champion, crossed the finish line in second in front of Wickett. Taylor Holdaway debuted his new chassis built with Shaun McWhirter of Streamline Racecars on the pole, running inside the top-five to a fourth, while Jo Lawrence rounded out the top-five.

Kyle Steckly slid back in the second half to sixth ahead of Danny Benedict, Shae Gemmell, Erik Dalla Riva, and Ray Morneau.

A front runner last season, Jake Sheridan battled up front in the early stages until contact with Holdaway saw him slide back through the field before a trip down pit road.

Kendra Adams and Josh Stade both experienced mechanical issues, cutting their runs short. Brandon McFerran was also scheduled to make his return behind the wheel, until a blown motor in practice sidelined him.

The APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series is back in action on June 8 at Flamboro Speedway.
