MILLGROVE, Ontario — In a battle that lasted the full 30-lap distance of the event, Tyler Hawn held off Thomas Wunsch to win the OSCAAR Hot Rod Bill Zardo Memorial at Flamboro Speedway.
Hawn started on the front row after pulling a two in the re-draw following the qualifying heats, which gave him the crucial track position he needed. He broke out to the early advantage, and led all 30 laps en route to the victory. It did not come easy, though, as Wunsch served a heavy challenge, keeping himself locked on the bumper of the No. 2 Beaumont as he tried to find a way by with each lap.
Ultimately, Hawn got the honor of scoring the victory and was also awarded the McColl Racing Enterprises Halfway Leader bonus. For Wunsch, the runner-up marks his best career finish on the tour behind the wheel of his new car. Rob Bromley held off a challenge throughout from Dalen Martin and Jason Parker to complete the podium.
Dave McMahon was sixth ahead of Trevor Thompson, Brian Wilson, and Matt Spry.
Unfortunately, the event featured a significant accident on Lap 2 when a rad hose let go on Lane Zardo’s Dodge, resulting in the track turning into an ice rink with water throughout turns three and four. Both Zardo and Steve Book found themselves on their roof after the incident concluded. Thankfully, all drivers were okay and uninjured.
Zardo was credited with a 10th-place finish in front of Drew Richardson, Book, and Adrian Foster.
Heat victories went to Thomas Wunsch and Trevor Thompson.
