If you are looking for Brian Wilson Jr. during the fall and winter months, you will probably catch him on iRacing.
“I love that stuff,” he revealed. “I also make racecar designs on iRacing too. If you’re racing with me on iRacing, the paint scheme I’m using, I probably designed it. I (also) recently started getting into Hockey, like watching some of the leafs games and also playing the NHL games. And among some other things, those are some of my off track interests.”
Though once May comes, the focus will be back on his racecar as the team is already preparing for the new season ahead.
“My thoughts going into the 2025 season is to learn again,” he commented. “With the new motor in the car, it’s gonna be way different than last year. Lots more horsepower on demand, so that is going to take some getting used to. The goals are to get another win or two and just to overall stay consistant.”
Wilson Jr.’s first career Hot Rod victory came last season, coming on his grandfather’s memorial night.
“To win on that night with all of my family and friends at the track was very special to me,” he expressed. “That night as a whole was special. The mini stock race later that night was a fun time, although in the moment it was frustrating finishing second again. Looking back on it though, it was special for sure.”
As he looks to build upon the success, he says he needs to be “more assertive” and “get the elbows out a little bit more” as he felt he gave up a spot or two by being safe.
“The feeling of being at the track keeps me coming back,” he added. “It’s just different from anything else you could do on a Saturday during the summer. The atmosphere around a racetrack is unmatched and like no other.”
His time spent at the track also allows him to spend time with his father, acting as each other’s crew chief at times.
“When we are racing against each other, I race him harder then I do anybody else on track with us,” he admitted. “I have actually crashed with him a few times before. But besides that, very solid relationship.”
Beyond his father, he also considers Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson as two of his other racing heroes, electing to look up to a lot of people throughout motorsports.
As he looks towards his future in racing, Wilson Jr. says he would absolutely love the chance to get behind the wheel of a Late Model.
“Ever since I started watching races, those cars have stood out to me from the start,” he expressed. “And a Hot Rod is pretty much a Limited Late Model so you could say I have accomplished my dream of racing a Late Model. But a Pro Late is for sure the end goal for me.”
