Davenport Scores Jr Late Model Feature Victory at Sunset Speedway; Moat Crowned Champion

INNISFIL, Ontario — Taking the lead in the early stages, Josh Davenport won the Jr Late Model feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

Keegan Moat won the first heat, continuing to show the same dominance that gave him the points lead heading into the final night.

Josh Davenport was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Moat, Morgan Moore, Lyla Sikma, Avery Fitzpatrick, Rylan Kamrath, and Landon Sellers. There was a quick yellow flag for an incident involving Fitzpatrick and Moore, with both drivers continuing. Sellers’ only completed six laps following contact with the outside turn three wall after Moat went around ahead of him.

When it came time for the feature, Keegan Moat found his way to the lead quickly, hoping to set the same tone as he had in recent weeks. However, he was not able to shake Josh Davenport who remained right in tire tracks, looking for a way by. The persistence paid off, with the No. 30 making his way by to take the lead. Moat tried to push harder to get back by, but instead found himself facing the wrong way in turn four.

Moat restarted from the tail and looked to make quick work of the traffic ahead to get back up front, including going three-wide off the start with Morgan Moore and Landon Sellers. The move did not go as well as anticipated, with contact happening between Moat and Sellers, resulting in Sellers making significant contact with the inside turn two wall for another yellow flag.

Josh Davenport got a good restart to lead the rest of the way, with Keegan Moat fighting his way back up to second to be crowned the 2023 Jr Late Model Champion. Lyla Sikma finished third in her Sunset Speedway debut, with Morgan Moore and Avery Fitzpatrick completing the top-five. Landon Sellers was scored sixth, while Rylan Kamrath rounded out the field after a flat tire on Lap 12.
