INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite a very unique format that saw the field completely inverted for two of the three features, Doug Butler found a way to come out on top at the very end.
Surprisingly, the current Sunset Speedway points leader was not the fastest driver in time trials as he ranked second behind Shawn Taylor. However, that did not stop him from asserting his dominance in taking the lead off the front row in the first feature to pace all 25 laps en route to winning. He started 23rd in the second feature, finding his way through the traffic for a fifth-place finish. He then capped the afternoon off with a third in the final feature.
Charlie Smith, who has been battling for victories against Butler all year long, ranked second at the end of the three-feature show after scoring the victory in the second segment. He had finishes of fourth and sixth in the other two, respectively. Shawn Taylor was consistent in the first two features, but an 11th-place finish in the third segment relegated him to third on the final rundown.
Jordan Howse made his return to Mini Stock competition behind a mustang for Bullen Racing for fourth overall, with Peterborough Speedway Champion Nolan Gould completing the top-five. Bobby Mercer and Tyler Seaboyer took up positions sixth and seventh, with Seaboyer left wondering what if after placing 24th in the last segment due to an incident with Wyatt Sutcliffe down the backstretch.
Blaise Shaw showed speed throughout, but saw his dreams of winning overall come apart due to contact during the second segment. However, the driver of the No. 81 Mustang rebounded in style, out-battling Cameron McGlashan to win the final segment for eighth overall. Jacob Sutcliffe and Mike Thomson completed the top-10.
