BRIGHTON, Ontario — It is that time of year again where we kick the dust up, and have some fun sliding around in the dirt as the Qwick Wick OSCAAR Hot Rods head off for their annual trip to Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 13.
It will mark the fourth time the Hot Rods have raced at Brighton Speedway, following their inaugural appearance in 2017. Thus far, we’ve seen Steve Book become the only repeat winner, capturing the checkered flag in 2018 and 2021. The other two winners were none other than Tyler Hawn and Rick Philips.
Following each of the events, regardless of the winner, the fans have left the speedway talking about the racing, as the stars of the series have battle side-by-side for multiple laps for positions throughout the field.
Additionally, this year marks a special occasion for the series, as it marks their 50th feature of competition since the inaugural campaign in 2017.
Jeremy McLean hopes the speed shown with a top-10 in six of his last 10 tour appearances carries into this weekend. While he has not tackled the dirt himself, Brandon Crumbie has been an ace behind the wheel of his Chevelle with a trio of podium finishes.
Steve Book heads into this weekend with a smile on his face following no finishes worse than sixth in 17 of his last 21 series starts, including a trio of podiums in 2022. He also knows how to get it done on the dirt, as evident by being a double past winner with a fourth in his other appearance.
Paul Senior hopes to have a good outing as he enters on a string of positive finishes, with five straight top-10 finishes including a runner-up. He has shown speed at Brighton Speedway in the past, as evident by a third-place finish.
Gary Hannah hopes to keep the positive momentum rolling following a season-best ninth-place finish at Peterborough Speedway. He scored a 10th-place finish in his first appearance at Brighton in 2021.
Ryan Cowan looks to keep the improvement rolling, following a season-best seventh-place finish at Peterborough Speedway. He ran strong at Brighton Speedway last year, picking up a fifth.
Nick Clarke hopes to keep the pretty in the blue mustang as he enters this weekend with momentum, rolling a top-10 in four of his last five tour appearances, including a pair of runner-ups. He has placed in the top-eight in each of his Brighton races, including a track-best fifth.
Sean Walker hopes to continue getting stronger this season, following a season-best 11th-place finish at Peterborough Speedway. Notably, he was able to score a ninth last season at Brighton Speedway.
Following a seventh in his first Brighton Speedway start, Bill Clarke hopes to improve this weekend and break into the top-five. He has been solid this year to date, scoring a season-best 10th-place finish at Peterborough Speedway.
Art Rodgers will hope to make his first appearance with the tour in 2022 this weekend, after building a new Dodge Dart for the campaign. He has ran well at Brighton before, scoring no finishes worse than ninth in three appearances including a third.
A series of drivers will be making their first tour appearances at Brighton Speedway, ready to mix it up with the others.
Connor Ellis hopes to keep the momentum rolling after posting a top-15 in five of his last six tour appearances, including a season-best ninth at Delaware Speedway.
Tom Walters rolls into Brighton Speedway with momentum on his side following a pair of back-to-back runner-up finishes.
Rob Bromley heads to Brighton Speedway with momentum on his side, following a top-10 in six of the seven races this season, including four top-five finishes to give him the points lead.
Bill Zardo hopes to keep the season rolling, after scoring his first career series victory at Peterborough Speedway. Notably, he has scored a top-10 in four of the seven races this season to date.
Matt Spry will hope to continue to build his notebook with the series, following a 15th and 12th in his first two appearances with the series.
Beyond the drivers mentioned here, there is the possibility to see other faces make an appearance this weekend at Brighton Speedway.
