The United Racing Series’ Qwick Wick Super Stock Series rolled into Peterborough Speedway for event number two of the 2021 season. 32 Super Stocks were on hand to qualify for 26 spots. The event became tougher for some teams during the afternoon as the skies opened up shortly after practice began, and a number of drivers had still never turned a lap on the speedway before time trials.

Qualifying was the first order of the day, and the lap count for qualifying was increased to eight laps for each group to give the drivers some additional time to feel out the conditions, and the track.

Gerrit Tiemersma, of Newmarket, turned the fastest time with a lap of 14.755, besting second-place and home track driver Anthony DiBello, of Woodville, who timed in at 14.832 seconds. Lane Zardo, of Brampton, was third, with Jason Parker, of Port Elgin, fourth, and Bailey Jacobs, of Warsaw, fifth. Matthew Bentley, of Guelph, was sixth, with Carson Nagy, of Mt. Hope, in seventh, and Nic Ramsay, of St. Thomas, timing in eighth. All those drivers broke the 15-second barrier, with Dwayne Baker, of Stayner, and opening race feature winner Trevor Collver, of Lucan, rounding out the top-ten.

The top 18 drivers were locked in through time trials, sending 14 cars into the Last Chance Qualifying race to duel for just four spots in the main event. The 15-lap affair rolled with Rob Richards, of Burkton Station, on the point, and Tyler Bouillon, of Omemee, on the outside of the front row.  =Todd Davenport, of Allenford, and Mike Weeda, of Bolton, occupying row two. It was a rough and tumble affair, with Richards leading every lap to claim the victory. Ray Morneau, of Windsor, finished second, with Justin Collison, of Cambridge third, and Davenport recovering from a lap one spin the claim the last transfer spot into the main event.

Following the invert, Tiemersma and Nagy would occupy the front tow with Bentley and Ramsay on row two. Row three was Zardo and Parker. Baker, Collver, Bailey, and DiBello rounded out the top-ten starting spots.

Collver had early issues and brought out the races first yellow on lap two when he hit the wall off turn two, damaging the car beyond repair for the night. Tiemersma was able to lead the first 11 laps until Nagy muscled him out of the way on lap 12 to take the lead.  Zardo was also on the move, climbing from sixth to third in the opening dozen laps.

On lap 17, Tiemersma was in more trouble as Zardo took the second spot, bringing Bentley and DiBello with him, and shuffling Tiemersma back to fifth.

At the halfway point, the order was Nagy, Zardo, DiBello, Bentley and Tiemersma making up the top-five, and Baker, Ramsay, Parker, Pete Vanderwyst, of St. Thomas, and Ken McNichol Jr., of Exeter rounding out the top-ten.

The front of the field was shuffled shortly after the halfway mark, as DiBello moved to second, past Zardo, bringing Bentley with him on lap 27, before Bentley took second away from DiBello on lap 29.

The events second yellow would fly on lap 30 for Marlie Owen spinning off turn four. The green would appear for less than a lap when DiBello made contact with Bentley on the entrance to turn three, putting DiBello to the back, and Bentley out of the event, while and setting the field for another restart with 20 laps to go.  The running order was now Nagy up front followed by Zardo, with Tiemersma back up to third, and Baker and Ramsay rounding out the top-five for the next restart.

The race would go green until the end, with Nagy holding serve and walking away from Nagy on the restart, winning by a couple of seconds with Zardo and Tiemersma joining him on the podium. Ramsay rallied to finish fourth, with Ethan Constable, of Barrie, finishing fifth after starting 16^th. For Nagy, it was his first career Qwick Wick series win.

Vanderwyst would up sixth, with Baker seventh, and Paul Pepper, of North Bay, eighth.  Parker and McNicol rounded out the top-ten.  Baker, McNicol, Parker, and Pepper, have all recorded top-ten finishes in both of the rounds so far this season.

The next event for the United Racing Series will be Saturday, August 14^th, with the APC Late Model Series presented by Grisdale Racing Enterprises, followed by another round on August 21^st at Sauble Speedway.

The Qwick Wick Super Stock Series will be back in action for race three of their five-race series on Saturday September 4^th, at Flamboro Speedway.
