INNISFIL, Ontario — Doing double duty at Sunset Speedway, things would not go as smoothly as envisioned for Wally Wilson, despite showing speed behind the wheel of both his Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified and Outlaw Midget.
Wilson started off Saturday behind the wheel of his modified, finishing fourth in both of his qualifiers.
Starting third in the 36-lap feature, he would drop back in the early stages, though a combination of being stuck on the outside and contact. Though he’d continue to battle right down to the checkered flag, finishing 16th.
Wilson would begin his Sunday behind the wheel of the No. 50 Wagner Painting Midget, finishing fourth in both of his qualifiers.
Starting fifth for the feature, he dropped back to ninth in the early stages, though jumped back up to eighth by Lap 5. He’d remain there through the middle portion of the feature, making a mid-race pass to move up to seventh before the race’s second caution at Lap 17.
Restarting in the fourth row, he would begin to make his move forward, moving up into the top-five. It would not last as a car would spin in front of him, coming up across the track right into his path. The pair would make direct contact, ending the race early.
The incident would cause Wilson to hurt his elbow, with the team deciding for Wilson to start and park for the second 36-lap modified feature on Sunday night. He was credited with a 16th-place finish.
Wilson is expected to be fully healed, and back behind the wheel in this weekend’s Outlaw Midget event at Full Throttle Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 28. He will be back behind the wheel of the Modified on Sunday, October 6 at Flamboro Speedway.
