Michel Beyore Continues Sportsman Learning Curve at Brockville; Gearing Up for Ogilvie’s Series This Weekend

COLBORNE, Ont. – July 10, 2017 – After two weeks off from DIRTcar Sportsman racing, Michel Beyore returned to the seat of his Metals Plus/Millennium Crane No.54a on Saturday at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Beyore was continuing his first season back on the dirt and earned a 13th-place finish against a full field of cars on Saturday night.

He tallied a seventh-place finish in his heat, enough to qualify into the handicap inversion. However, because Beyore is racing part-time at Brockville, he is typically handicapped towards the rear of the field. This week he was able to move forward to 13th.

“The Feature was tough slugging,” admitted Beyore. “The heat was alright, I held my own there. Once we got going in the Feature, the majority of the race we were running two and three wide. It was hard to move up.”

It was still a clean run for the Colborne, Ont. driver who continues to adapt to his new office as well as Brockville’s challenging configuration and surface.

“It got pretty slick,” Beyore said. “I thought it would have stayed tacky because of all the rain, but it actually got a little bit dusty. I ended up finishing 13th and we’re not too bad for damage, so we’re good to go.”

Beyore is excited to race on back-to-back weeks for the first time this season. He’s gearing up for his first extra-distance race of the year as Brockville hosts the Sportsman for a 40-lap Feature in the second round in the Ogilvie’s Series on July 15.

“It’s a 40-lap race and the longer the race is, the better it is for me, I feel,” Beyore said excitedly. “At the other races, we’ve shown to be a little bit stronger at the end. I’m hoping that works out for us again.”

Beyore’s biggest challenge so far this season has been predicting how the track will change throughout the night, he said. He hopes to get a better handle on it this week for what will likely be a slick surface as he shoots for his first top-five finish of the year.

“Right now, I’m not bad, but to read the track right before we go out for the Feature is tough,” Beyore said. “Saturday, we made a couple of changes and I was really good in the practice before the Feature. I came in and I kind of shot myself in the foot. I didn’t go any further with the changes.”

Regardless, Beyore is still enjoying the return to his roots and the more laid back pace at the dirt track. It’s clear he’s improving too.

Saturday night I raced hard, but when we were all done we were quite happy,” Beyore said. “You were with guys and you were racing the whole time. We’re making headway and a couple of guys have noticed because they told me I’m starting to get the hang of this.”
