After last season did not necessarily end on the note that Paul Major would have preferred, it’s no surprise he is ready to turn a page and start a new chapter for 2026.
“My first thought heading into 2026 is excitement; we started last season with a competitive car and unfortunately after some incidents the car just became progressively worse through season,” he told Short Track Musings. “So, with fresh repairs and upgrades done to our car and access to even more resources with Velocity Race Cars, my excitement and anticipation for 2026 is at an all-time high to go chase our goals.”
Knowing what he’s capable of based on the speed shown last season, Major went on to add the goals are to improve his personal best lap, picking up a couple heat race wins, and being ready “to earn our first top 5 in a feature and ultimately be in contention for some podiums.”
Last season racing full-time at Delaware Speedway, Major picked up eight feature top-10’s and a heat win en route to placing ninth in the year-end standings.
“Looking back on 2025 it’s bittersweet, having started off the season strong and then to have it unravel in the second half,” he reflected. “I had certain expectations based on the previous season that I wanted to achieve but our car issues derailed those. On the other hand, the season had the best days we’ve experienced so far and I’m grateful to even be in this position, doing something I love, surrounded by a great team.”
Major feels to achieve the goals he has set out for himself this upcoming season, he will need to improve his overall race craft – something he feels has been steadily improving.
“With minimal experience behind the wheel, that craft has really just started to develop in 2025, which was only my second season in a racecar, as we found ourselves in more mid pack battles,” he commented. “Our 2026 schedule will present a lot more opportunities to fine tune that race craft and finish our races strong.”
The 2026 campaign will also see him work alongside Ryan Dyson once again, with the Super Stock regular stepping behind the wheel of the late model for a couple of races this season.
“Ryan is someone who has been a huge help to me behind the scenes since I met him through WMI,” Major expressed. “Whether that’s with graphic design for our team, help on the business side of racing, to giving driving advice and being somewhat of a “cheerleader” as I reach milestones. We’ve become friends through racing and I know his future goals involve moving into the late model class. So, when I found out I’d be missing some races it was the natural choice to not only keep myself in the points, but to also give him an opportunity at the same time. I won’t lie though; it is nerve-wracking being in the car owner position and getting race updates via race monitor.”
For Major, his interest in racing comes from his father, being a fan of the sport his entire life, and spending time crewing for his uncle back in the day. He would get behind the wheel of a junior kart with the local karting club at the age of the 12, picking up a championship back in 2007, though found his racing career taking a back seat during his teenage years.
“Fast forward to 2022 and I took a leap of faith and moved across the country to Ontario with a loose plan of how to get into a racecar and live my dreams,” he commented. “My uncle and cousin had moved years prior and were well known in the racing scene and my uncle was still working at WMI at the time. That was my opportunity to get a foot in the door and I haven’t stopped since. Finally, in 2024 the dreams happened and I got behind the wheel for the first time.”
Through the years, he has been able to make several memories in the sport, including his 30th birthday trip to the Daytona 500.
“Another one would have to be getting my first heat win, a few tears were shed over that one,” he added. “It validated my belief that I had in myself and those emotions of seeing my visions coming true along with seeing the team’s shared excitement were something special.”
