Sunset Speedway Caps Off “End of an Era” with 2025 Banquet

INNISFIL, Ontario — As the current management hang the final curtain on their time running the speedway, the drivers and teams gathered to celebrate not only how amazing the past 2025 race season was, but how the past decade of racing has been at Sunset Speedway.

Each of the division champions were recognised on the stage before the crowd, with speeches shared, as well as a trophy and championship ring given to each of them. They were as followed – Jordan Howse (Late Model), Wally Wilson (Modified), Tyler Hawn (Hot Rod), Coltin Everingham (Super Stock), Jacob Sutcliffe (Mini Stock), Steve Oakes (Bone Stock), and Josh Davenport (Jr Late Model).

The new drivers for each of the divisions were recognised, with the annual Rookie of the Year honours being handed out across the divisions. The drivers that took home those prizes include Kayne McAllister (Jr Late Model), Sera Giannone (Bone Stock), Curtis Burnett (Mini Stock), Josh Berry (Hot Rod), Amanda Balson (Modified), and Gerrit Tiemersma (Late Model).

Beautiful racecars became the theme of the season with a lot of different cars on-track catching the eyes of everyone in attendance. Each division had a Best Appearing Award given, as they have done in years past, with no surprise in whom took home the honors as they went to Ronnie Mason (Jr Late Model), Austyn Jennett (Bone Stock), Aundrea Lusk (Mini Stock), Paul Pepper (Super Stock), Tyler Hawn (Hot Rod), Amanda Balson (Modified), and Paul Maltese (Late Model).

Matt Haufe showed improvement throughout the season in the Modified division, working his way into consistently running inside the top-five and winning a couple pole awards in the last couple weeks of the 2025 campaign. He was recognized with the Most Improved Driver Award, which was picked up by his car owner Monty Farrell.

Tyler Liscum (Overkill Enterprises) and Tyler Styruk (Styruk Energy Systems) were both recognized for their continued contributions to the sport, from sponsoring various drivers to divisions and things beyond with special awards by the speedway. The track also presents one of their special rings to someone each season that has put in time and work behind the scenes to make the track be successful, with Courtney Wright being this year’s recipient.

Dominoes Pizza awarded a Performer of the Week Award throughout the 2025 campaign each week of the season, and as has become tradition, there is also a yearly winner for the prize. Johnny Morrison took it home after the incredible super stock feature at the End of an Era weekend event, which included his last lap pass on Ryan Semple for the victory.
