PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Battling up front throughout the Electric City 167 at Peterborough Speedway’s 32nd Annual Autumn Colours Classic, Rick Spencer-Walt completed the event with a podium finish.
Spencer-Walt showed speed in Saturday evening’s qualifying session, laying down a lap of 13.880 seconds to qualify fifth for the 167-lap event on Sunday. He would work his way forward from the drop of the green flag to move up into the runner-up spot with just eight laps on the board. However, an early problem arose with a tire going down on his No. 31 Late Model, forcing him down pit road on Lap 26 for a tire change.
Restarting in 15th, he began to work his way back forward, cracking the top-10 on Lap 36, before making his way back into the top-five just 12 laps later. He continued to make passes and log laps, breaking into the top-three just past the halfway mark before taking over the runner-up spot with 93 laps on the board.
He would try to reel in the race leader through the final 70 laps, unable to close the gap, crossing the finish line with a runner-up finish. It marks his second top-10 behind the wheel of a late model in the final three weeks in the season following a ninth-place finish in the Great Canadian 300 at Delaware Speedway.
Special thanks to Dwayne Baker for the opportunity to drive his car for the event, as well as JM Custom Paint and Powder Coating & Halfords Tax Service for jumping on board to sponsor the weekend.
