INNISFIL, Ontario — Five qualifying heats, a C-main, a B-Main, and patience in the tech shed with 50 cars on the property vying for a cut of the big payday, Matt Young was the ultimate winner of the Two Speed Nationals as part of the Last Dance at Sunset Speedway.
A regular at Flamboro Speedway, Matt Young showed he was going to be part of the conversation after posting a runner-up in his qualifying heat to start sixth for the 50-lap feature. He ran inside the top-five throughout the full duration of the event, moving up into third going into the final restart. He then got a good restart, making the pass on Brady Cox to cross the finish line in second.
Following the main event, four drivers in total were disqualified in technical inspection, including the original driver that crossed the finish line first. Matt Young was the highest finisher to have no issues post-race, and therefore was credited with the victory.
It was a Flamboro Speedway sweep of the top-five with Chance Rogers picking up the runner-up ahead of Phil Givens, Spencer Riddell, and Craig Cole.
Full Throttle Motor Speedway regular Eric McLean continued his rookie campaign with an impressive sixth after winning one of the five qualifying heats in front of Brayden Zammit, Calvin Reesor, Jacob Stavro, and Dan Storey. Notably, Reesor was one of the transfers from the B-Main.
Donavin Clark made the trek from Delaware Speedway for an 11th, followed by Nicholas Reece, B-Main winner Gary Slama, Leo Labarbera, Ryan McNicol, Dan Hastings, Ayden McNicol, and Jeremy Hughes.
James Houghton won his heat, and was one of the drivers to watch early in the battle for the lead. He was able to take over the top spot and led several laps, however was sent to the back of the field after being deemed having jumped a pair of restarts. He parked his car in the infield afterwards, credited with 19th.
Tanner Holmes, Mike Balson, and Austin Etsell were credited with 19th and 20th respectively after tangling together with 14 laps to go on a restart in turn one. 2025 Sunset Speedway Bone Stock Champion Steve Oakes and Aidan Harper were both forced down pit road after mechanical failures.
As mentioned previously, the B-Main victory was picked up by Gary Slama with Chris Allard winning the C-Main. Allard was forced to run the C after a mechanical failure in his qualifying heat, and made his way forward in the B with a third to transfer to the main dance. He was one of the four post-race disqualifications after crossing the finish line inside the top-10.
