SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — He may have been sideways off the corner at one point, but Tyler Hawn pointed it the right way and drove himself to Sauble Speedway victory lane in the OSCAAR Hot Rod feature.
Hawn put himself in position to be apart of the conversation for a victory by making his way to the front quickly up to the runner-up spot behind Thomas Wunsch. He tried to begin to trek down the leader, but lap traffic played havoc in making that happen. With five laps to go, he got sideways going around the outside of Brian Wilson, ultimately utilising the full backstretch to get his car pointed in the right direction. The caution came out moments later for a separate spin off the same corner by Dalen Martin.
The first attempt at a restart did not go smoothly, with Wunsch spinning off of the front row coming to the green. This moved Tyler Hawn to the inside of the front row in the preferred lane. He then out-ran Jason Parker in a two-lap heads-up battle to score the victory.
Jason Parker scored a second-place finish ahead of Rob Bromley, Steve Book, and Nick Holman. Trevor Thompson was sixth, with Dalen Martin rebounding to seventh after his spin. Thomas Wunsch wound up seventh after leading 27 of the 30 laps in front of Brian Wilson and Luke Gignac.
Tanner Holmes’ OSCAAR debut landed him in 11th, followed by Matt Hopkins, Jeremy McLean, and Drew Richardson.
Tyler Hawn now holds a six-point advantage going into the series’ next event, which takes place at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, September 20.
