PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — 0,019 seconds. That was the difference between the top-two at the finish line when the checkered flag waved for the OSCAAR Hot Rod feature.
Steve Book started on the pole, and got himself out to the early lead ahead of the field. He managed to spread it out to a couple car lengths at times. However, through the full distance, the competition kept themselves within striking distance.
Dan Archibald elected to make his move on the final lap, using a small bump into three before making his way underneath Book through the corner. The pair battled side-by-side to the checkered, with Book being awarded the win by a margin of 0.019 seconds.
Archibald found his way quickly to the front with a pair of three-wide moves in the opening laps to climb from the third row to second by Lap 8. He did not have it easy, though, with Tyler Hawn hounding his back bumper throughout the event in looking for a way by.
Brian Wilson Sr. and Thomas Wunsch completed the top-five ahead of Trevor Thompson, Rob Bromley, and Luke Gignac.
Mark Gordon showed speed in qualifying, but an issue on the opening lap resulted in him making contact with the outside turn four wall to end his night early. Bob Cousineau’s season debut did not go as planned, with the motor expiring in practice.
Heat wins went to Gordon, Thompson, Archibald, and Hawn.
The OSCAAR Hot Rods are back in action on Saturday, August 16 at Sauble Speedway.
