NEW YORK — A double header weekend racing in New York brought forth a weekend filled with adversity for A.J. Emms and team.

Friday, July 11 at Spencer Speedway saw Emms ready for his second appearance with the Race of Champions Asphalt Modifieds, this time driving for the No. 21 for Paul Townsend.

Laying down a lap of 20.478 seconds, Emms set himself 20th on the board, setting him up to start seventh for the second qualifying heat. He would use the heat to continue getting used to the car, as well as re-accumulated with the track, crossing the finish line in seventh.

Starting deep in the field for the main event, he worked his way forward throughout the first half of the event, finding his way inside the top-15 just past the halfway. Unfortunately, losing grip with the tires and battling handling conditions, he faded back in the late stages en route to an 18th-place finish.

Saturday, July 12 at Lancaster Speedway saw Emms set for his third event at the oval, back behind the wheel of the familiar No. 2 Sportsman Modified he had driven in the past.

Unfortunately, the issues began right away with the team finding a problem during the first practice session on-track. It was determined to be a motor issue, which would plague them throughout the night. Emms took the green at the tail of the field, making nine laps, before pulling off the track done for the event early. He was credited with an 18th-place finish.
