INNISFIL, Ontario — Battling throughout the pair of features on Sunday at Sunset Speedway, Austyn Jennett led the way for his SKLD Motorsports teammates.
Jennett showed speed during the qualifying session, posting a lap of 17.625 seconds to set himself up to start second for the first of the pair of features. He took advantage of the front row starting spot, taking the early lead in the event. He led the first series of laps, before finding himself in a side-by-side battle for the top spot. Ultimately, he came up short, but never let the leader lose touch of him en route to a runner-up finish.
The full field invert would see him start at the back for the second 20-lap affair with a goal set on moving forward. He began to make moves, though unfortunately was deemed involved in an early caution at Lap 3, sending him backwards once again. He did not let the setback get him down, moving his way back forward through the field to break into the top-five. He then made an impressive three-wide move, along with a solid pass, to put himself in the runner-up spot as the field crossed the finish line.
The pair of runner-ups at the Battle Royale gave him a second-place finish overall, giving him three runner-up finishes for 2025 following the season opener.
His teammates Matt McGrath and Karlie Wilman both showed speed in both events, with McGrath leading the field to green in the second feature. Unfortunately, they found themselves down pit road early in the second feature with mechanical issues.
The SKLD Motorsports team will be back at Sunset Speedway on Sunday, May 23 for Fan Appreciation Night.
