Gravel Out-Battles World of Outlaws to Victory at Ohsweken Speedway

OHSWEKEN, Ontario — It took a couple battles along the way, but David Gravel was able to turn his second-place starting spot into a victory on Wednesday night with the World of Outlaws at Ohsweken Speedway.

Gravel started up front, and kept himself within the top-three in the early stages while Jordan Thomas stretched out the advantage over the field. The advantage remained that way until a caution came out for Stewart Friesen going around, setting up a late-race restart.

The restart with 19 laps to go went perfect for Carson Macedo (pictured right), sliding from fifth to the lead, setting up a back and forth battle between himself and Gravel. The pair took turns sliding each other over the next five laps, with Gravel coming out on top.

David Gravel paced the rest of the way en route to winning the first of two features this week for the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars at Ohsweken. Sheldon Haudenchild made the late-pass on Carson Macedo for second, with that coming after having to change an engine between qualifying and the Dash. Bill Balog and Jordan Thomas rounded out the top-five.

Donny Schatz made his way forward for sixth in front of Michael Kofoid, Giovanni Scelzi, Zach Hampton, and Chris Windom.

Heat races went to Macedo, Balog, Gravel and Scelzi, with Thomas winning the Dash.

Of note, DJ Christie (pictured right) was the only driver to flip on the day, going head-over-heels in turn one after contact occurred ahead.
