Setting the quick time in time trials, Josh Stade kept himself up front throughout the 100 laps and struck when it mattered most, picking up the checkered flag in the Steve Slaughter Classic at Sunset Speedway.

An impressive lap of 14.312 seconds would give the driver of the No. 17 Late Model a strong starting spot for the 100-lap affair. He kept himself inside the top-five throughout the opening quarter of the event, moving into third on Lap 32. He then made his move at the halfway mark to take over the top spot, pacing the second half en route to taking home the victory.

Dustyn Mombourquette pacing himself throughout the event and being inside the top-five as the other contenders battled for spots paid off for second ahead of defending division champion Jordan Howse. Dale Shaw and Connor Pritiko completed the top-five.

Shae Gemmel’s decision to run the event to gain data for the APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series event on May 17 gave him a sixth-place finish in front of Billy Zardo, who rebounded after being involved in a pair of incidents in the second half. Kendra Adams was eighth ahead of Gord Shepherd and Dwayne Baker.

The first half of the event ran clean, prior to a slew of cautions throughout the remaining 50 laps of the race. Erik Dalla Riva was running fifth when contact from Shepherd entering turn three sent the No. 74 into the outside wall with 22 laps to go, ending his race early. Taylor Holdaway was running third when contact from Zardo sent him for a spin with 41 laps to go; he restarted 14th and made up a little ground, before pulling off on Lap 68. Travis Hallyburton led in the early stages, before mechanical issues while leading sent him pit side.
