PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — Taking advantage when the seas parted ahead of him in the closing laps, Charlie Smith picked up the victory in the Mini Stock feature at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic.
Charlie Smith started near the front, and put himself up into the third spot at the halfway mark. He closed the gap between himself and the leaders in the late stages, as Shawn Taylor and Doug Butler battled back and forth for the lead. Contact would happen between the pair with two laps remaining, with Smith sneaking his way around to score the win.
Charlie Smith then held off Will Gibbons and James Townsend on a late-race restart to pick up the win. Mike Nelson drove his way through the field after winning the b-main for fourth, with Bobby Mercer rounding out the top-five.
Chris Tubman was sixth ahead of Jacob Sutcliffe, Matt Young, Doug Butler, and Blaise Shaw. Shaw sustained front end nose damage when he caught the back of Rob Crick when he went around on the frontstretch.
Bob Stewart was 11th in front of Wyatt Sutcliffe, who sustained heavy nose damage in the opening laps of the 67-lap feature. Mike Thomson followed after a late-race spin on the frontstretch ahead of Brad Lavalle, Dave Dippel, Tyler McMurter, Dave Bragg, Ryan Babin, Rob Crick, and Peter Wakeling.
Johnny Paradzinski battled mechanical issues to 21st, followed by Shawn Taylor, Karl Sault, Curtis Burnett, Nolan Gould, Dustin Goodfellow, and Ryder White.
