INNISFIL, Ontario — It was a battle that lasted throughout the Fall Velocity feature at Sunset Speedway and came down to the final laps, but ultimately saw a veteran in Shawn Chenoweth pick up the checkered flag on Sunday.
Shawn Chenoweth broke out to the early advantage, and looked as though he’d cruise to another triumph at Sunset. However, Jacob Booth began to reel him in through the second half setting up a battle between the pair. Booth gave a couple shots to the back bumper of Chenoweth, and looked to make the pass on more than one occasion. He was able to accomplish the feat once, but a well-timed crossover by Chenoweth handed him back the advantage a lap later.
Shawn Chenoweth picking up the victory ahead of Jacob Booth, while Matt McGrath made his way through the traffic for third in front of Ethan Cournyea and Marlie Owens.
It was not a clean perfect day of racing, with a three-way incident with contact resulted in Cole Burrows’ hopes of winning Fall Velocity end following the qualifying heat. Lane Zardo looked underneath Burrows for the spot coming off turn two, at the same time McGrath looked to get by Zardo. The contact caused Burrows to make significant contact with the inside wall.
Heat victories went to Paul Boundy and Shawn Chenoweth.
