INNISFIL, Ontario — In a two-lap battle that went right down to the checkered flag, Amanda Balson edged out Dan Archibald to win the Hot Rod feature at Sunset Speedway.
The feature was full of drama throughout, with several incidents slowing down the racing action at times. However, after inheriting the top spot on Lap 18, Amanda Balson did not look back as she took on each contender, battling back to keep her spot. Dan Archibald mounted the largest charge on a late-race restart, but ultimately came up short with Balson winning.
Tom Walters rebounded for a third-place finish after a black-flag in the qualifying heats for contact caused him to start tail of the field. Tyler Hawn and Steve McCaw came back from their incident together mid-way through to complete the top-five.
Thomas Dunn avoided all the mayhem for sixth ahead of Jay Cutting, Paul Bogensberger Jr., Luke Gignac, and Drew Robertson. Herb Walters went around for a spin with a couple laps to go, relegating him back to 11th in the final results.
Several drivers had good runs going, but saw those end early as a result of contact. Jamie Cairns was up to fourth when contact with Bogensberger Jr. saw him get into the frontstretch wall. Paul Senior and Rob Bromley tangled together on Lap 18 while battling for the lead, with Senior given the black-flag for rough driving.
Unfortunately, in the team’s return to the division after a wreck earlier this season, Dean Jessop went around for a spin on the frontstretch, backing it in the wall off of turn four.
