Doug Butler Scores Opportunity Knocks Invitational Victory in Return

He may have dusted the car off that very morning, but Doug Butler proved his Nissan is still fast as it was last season with a trip to victory lane in the Opportunity Knocks Mini Stock invitational on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

A multi-time champion of the division, Butler ran up front throughout the duration of the 35-lap feature, making his way forward as the laps ticked away to put himself in the second with 10 laps remaining. He began to reel in Blaise Shaw for the lead, when a caution came out with five laps to go for a pair of spins courtesy of Jason D’Antimo and Laila Walser.

Butler utilised the final restart to his advantage, taking the lead to pace the final laps en route to picking up the checkered flag. Shaw, who had led the previous 30 laps, crossed the finish line with a runner-up for his second consecutive podium. Spring Velocity winner Jacob Sutcliffe was third in front of Shawn Taylor and Chandler Bos.

Coleridge Phinnemore continued his impressive campaign with his third consecutive top-10 in sixth ahead of Michael Robinson III, Ryder White, D’Antimo, and Wyatt Sutcliffe.

Heat wins went to Bos and Shaw, with Wyatt Sutcliffe winning the b-main.
