INNISFIL, Ontario — It seems there’s a change in the waters for the SKLD Motorsports, as Austyn Jennett walked away from this past weekend’s events at Sunset Speedway with a special award.
After finding out the damage sustained to the motor in the mustang, the decision was made to get the Acura Bone Stock ready for competition. Jennett spent the past week getting it ready, including a complete engine rebuild, in hopes of a good run on Saturday.
It started off rough for him, as a wiring issue saw him bring the car down pit road during his qualifying heat. He was able to make the repairs necessary to have the car ready for the feature. Despite starting at the back of the field, Jennett made his way forward throughout the feature en route to a solid top-10 performance.
The hard work and determination saw him nominated for the track’s weekly Domino’s Pizza Performance of the Night Award, with him coming out on top in the online twitter vote. He will receive the trophy and certificate for a pizza this coming weekend.
His teammate Karlie Wilman was not as fortunate, as mechanical gremlins saw her qualifying heat end early, as well as her feature despite having made up some ground with a couple passes. She was credited with a 15th-place finish.
