Rain Ultimately Victorious at Sunset Speedway

INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite all the efforts put in by the track staff to dry the surface and get the show in, it was not meant to be as the second night of the 2024 season at Sunset Speedway was cut short due to rain.

The night saw the Late Models, Modifieds, Ontario Legend Car Series, and Bone Stocks on the property for action. The late models were unable to get any track time other than practice, but the rest of the divisions were in action for time trials.

Last year’s points runner-up T.J Edwards topped the time trials for the modifieds with a lap of 14.453 seconds ahead of Brad Pearsall, Rick Spencer-Walt, Tyler Liscum, and Ryan D’Antimo. Wally Wilson was also in attendance, but missed the session due to blowing a motor in practice. The team was in the process of putting a loaned power plant from Hawn Motorsports into the No. 69 Modified for the feature.

The Ontario Legend Car Series got both rounds of their heats in the books, with Jordan Latimer, Mitch Wright, and Jade Franklin each taking a pair of checkered flags a piece throughout the day.

There were a couple incidents throughout with some spins, but the only major damage sustained was the front fender getting ripped off of Austin Arnel in his first heat due to being driven over top of by Anthony Einarson. Arnel got it fixed for the second round of qualifying, scoring a fourth-place finish.

The Bone Stocks ran a pair of heats on their debut night of the season, with checkered flags collected by Chris Allard and Aidan Harper. The first heat was one of the closest seen in the division, featuring a race-long battle with Allard edging Josh Berry at the finish line.

The features will be made up, with double features for the Late Models on May 25, and double features for the Bone Stocks and Modifieds on June 8.
