Jordan Howse Kicks Off 2024 Campaign with Steve Slaughter Classic Victory

Taking the lead with 28 laps left on the board, Jordan Howse did not look back en route to scoring the victory in the Steve Slaughter Classic at Sunset Speedway.

The past division champion was fast all day long, qualifying second in time trials to Josh Stade, losing out on the pole by 0.014 seconds. This allowed Stade to start on the pole, pulling out to the early advantage ahead of Howse. Howse was smart, though, keeping himself within striking range throughout the 100-lap affair and began to reel him in through the second half before the eventual pass for the win.

It marks a great kick-off to what should be a great championship battle between the pair as Howse and Stade are both past champions and feature winners in their own right. Kyle Steckly ran inside the top-five throughout en route to third, while Jason Hathaway rebounded from qualifying 14th to fourth in his first start behind the wheel of a late model in awhile. 2023 Jr Hanley Classic winner Dale Shaw rounded out the top-five.

2022 NASCAR Canada Series Rookie of the Year Brandon Watson battled to sixth, with 2023 track champion Gord Shepherd rebounding from qualifying 20th for a seventh-place finish. Dwayne Baker, Jo Lawrence, and Travis Hallyburton rounded out the field.

The 100-lap affair ran clean except for a quick caution in the 40 laps for Cory McAllister going around in turn three off the bumper of Paul Maltese. McAllister placed 17th in his Pro Late Model debut.
