INNISFIL, Ontario — Consistently running up front all feature long, Jake Spencer-Walt was able to sneak his way through for the victory on Saturday at Sunset Speedway.
Blaise Shaw and Coleridge Phinnemore started on the front row, and it looked like it’d be a battle between them for the win. The prediction held true, with contact even being made between the pair with 15 laps to go. Phinnemore came out on top, and looked set to cruise to his first career feature victory.
The caution waved with six laps to go for Aundrea Lusk facing the wrong way in turn two, setting up a five-lap shootout for the victory. Jacob Sutcliffe was able to keep himself to the outside of Phinnemore over the first four laps, until Phinnemore came up a bit and pinched him into the outside wall coming to the white flag.
The contact resulted in Sutcliffe back into Phinnemore, before going around with a broken left front. Phinnemore got by, and drove to the checkered flag first. However, officials then made the call post-race to put him to the last lead lap car as a result of “being an involved car.”
While that battle went down, Cameron McGlashan was forced to check up with the contact ahead of him on the white flag. Jake Spencer-Walt took full advantage, getting alongside the No. 83 for position. The move paid off, as Spencer-Walt picked up his first career feature victory.
Cameron McGlashan was scored in second, ahead of Bob Phinnemore, Eric Rainey and Jacob Sutcliffe. Coleridge Phinnemore was the last car on the lead lap in sixth, ahead of Peter Wakeling, Kris Inglis, Madisson Tienkamp, and Aundrea Lusk.
Notably, Blaise Shaw was forced to a 12th-place finish when he went off the track to the pits a couple laps after the aforementioned battle for the lead.
Mike Robinson III contact with the inside wall, following a bit of contact from McGlashan off the corner and over-correction by Robinson, was the only significant incident of the event. He was credited with a 17th-place finish.
