Jake Spencer-Walt Ready to Tackle Rookie Campaign at Sunset Speedway

While it may be nice to be surrounded by racers helping you, it brings a lot of pressure to perform. Fortunately for Jake Spencer-Walt, even though he may be feeling it, he has been able to handle it so far with success.

Now after getting his feet wet through the second half of the 2023 season at Sunset Speedway in the Mini Stock division, Jake Spencer-Walt is ready to tackle the year that is ahead of him.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be a challenge. There are lots of good people in the mini stock division, and it should be really fun.”

He showed speed through the later bit of the season, including pacing a couple laps in a heat race and battling to a top-three finish. With some races under his belt through August and September, the third-generation racer is keeping his goals in check for the year ahead, focused on finishing races, while chasing top-10’s and learning along the way.

The move for Spencer-Walt to the Mini Stock division surprised nobody, simply based on the speed he showed while in the Jr Late Models. He was able to pick up multiple checkered flags across the province, including a championship at Sunset Speedway in 2023.

“That meant a lot,” he commented on capturing the title. “There was lots of help – like lots of help. Mike White, which helped a bunch. Ben Freiburger helped with the set-up on the car sometimes.”

If he can continue having the success that he has been able to capture to date, he hopes it turns into a super stock or late model opportunity down the road.
