Nicholas Reece Reflects on Season “packed full of surprises” in 2023

With a pair of top-five’s and seven top-10 finishes, it is safe to say that Nicholas Reece put together a solid season at Sunset Speedway in Bone Stock competition.

“This last season was packed full of surprises,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “I look back at all the highlights such as improving my driving style tremendously. It was also cool to watch the Bone Stock class to see how dedicated and hard working each and everyone was each week. We watched rookie drivers that by the end of the season gave me a hard time to catch up.

“Sunset did an amazing job with bringing the fans together with the drivers. Having the cards and seeing the smiles on people faces when they got each driver’s cards, and also getting each other’s cards and signatures was a really cool experience.”

The highlight of the year for Reece most certainly came on August 19 with his first career victory.

“That feature win was amazing in more ways than I can word,” he reflected. “I was lucky enough to have my girls at the track this week which doesn’t usually happen. One of my youngest daughters always tells me I’m a winner in her heart so I didn’t have to win. That calmed me so much that I went out just to go out and have fun and going out and getting this feature too just topped the cake. The look on my girls faces and them holding that trophy that’s the feeling that racing is all about!”

Coming off the successful campaign, Reece is not yet ready to divulge into his plans for the upcoming season. The only thing he would say is his team Shake ‘n’ Bake Motorsports has some things in store, and will be sharing those in the upcoming weeks.

However, as he gets ready for the season, he knows having the car race ready each weekend will be crucial.

“A lot of times tires needed to be replaced or other little things that you don’t realize how much it helps you out on that track,” he commented. “Another thing is how I pass other drivers. I’m still very nervous on the track when it comes to passing so I definitely need to work on the nerves of that.”

For Reece, his start behind the wheel came courtesy of going to the track with his best friend and fellow Bone Stock competitor Brandon Steele. It was Steele that wanted to get Reece behind the wheel after seeing his excitement in watching the action.

Keeping it in the family with his race team, his hero is his wife Brittany Reece in watching her get started behind the wheel this summer.

“I got to watch a person fight against all odds to just do what she loves brings me back to why I started racing in the beginning,” he commented.

Beyond the Bone Stock division, Reece is not sure if there is another division would like to try, but knows he wants to get behind the wheel on dirt one day.

“I guess if I had to pick another division I would want to try the hot rod series because they remind me of being a kid and watching the races with my best friend,” he added.
