Mike Norris Reflects Back on “Relatively Successful” Ontario Pro Challenge Campaign

Battling up from this past season weekly with the Ontario Pro Challenge Series, Mike Norris was able to put together another successful campaign.

“This past season was relatively successful, points wise finishing runner up in both the Canadian and national points,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “There is still room for improvement though. My season was plagued by inconsistency, but I’ve gotten those issues sorted out now.”

Although able to score six victories of his own this past season, he admits the most memorable moment was watching his sister Emma Norris score three wins of her own to become the winningest female driver in Pro Challenge history.

Alongside his own six wins, Norris scored 14 top-five’s and 16 top-10’s, boasting an average finish of 2.8125 – only to be bettered by his father Tim Norris at 1.75.

“For the next season we need to focus on consistency,” he commented. “I struggled with that this past season, and with that will come more speed that I’m looking for as well.”

Mike Norris will return back to the Ontario Pro Challenge Series in 2024, hopeful of chasing another championship crown and ready for the schedule ahead.

“Both Flamboro (Speedway) and Full Throttle Speedway are always fun to race at, but full throttle edges ahead cause every time we go there,” Norris expressed. “We are treated excellent and the track is so much fun to drive on.”

When he is not behind the wheel, Norris can be found at Flamboro Speedway helping with the getting the track ready in the spring and on the clean-up crew in the infield.

“It has taught me a lot about how close the track staff are,” he commented. “It’s a family and I’m so proud to be apart of such an amazing group. It always fun and exciting to see racing from the track’s perspective, one that not many get to see.”

Being able to watch the weekly action gives him a front row seat to the Canadian Vintage Modifieds, which is a division that he would like to try at one point in saying “they always looked like a blast to drive.”

Combining all the experience together he has gained in his racing endeavors, Norris’ advice to those getting started to find the right experienced driver and team to work with.

“I found its makes racing way more fun when the people your close to share the same passion and interest as you do,” he added.
