With a pair of feature wins and six heat victories, it’s safe to say it was another successful season for T.J Edwards in 2023 with the Just Foam It OSCAAR Modifieds. The 2022 series champion recently talked about it and more with SHORT TRACK MUSINGS.
What are your thoughts as you look back on the 2023 season?
There were a lot of highs and lows to it. We had some good luck, and some bad luck. You just take that and learn from it – and move onto to the next year. That’s all you can do.
What would you say was the most memorable moment?
I’d have to say probably the win at Sauble (Speedway) with a bunch of family and people being there. The first race (at Flamboro) didn’t go as planned so to come back after and win at Delaware and Sauble felt pretty good.
What is your favourite track that is currently on the OSCAAR schedule?
I don’t know. It would probably have to be Varney (now Full Throttle Motor Speedway) where I grew up racing late model and mini stock in. It’s a tricky little track that I like.
What do you feel that you need to do to improve and make the program stronger?
I’d have to say my team did everything right. We just didn’t have the luck. At the end of the year, luck is a big part of it, too. You can have the best car every night but it takes one bad thing to happen to change your luck. It definitely wasn’t for the effort that the team put in.
We’ve talked about this before, but at the track your family is always there – your father, your uncle. What does it mean to have their support?
It means a lot, especially having my uncle, my dad, and Brian (MacDonald) has pretty much become family, too. Every race that I am at, he’s there. It’s not really a team anymore – it becomes more of a family than a team. You work together, you’re together every weekend, you’re together in the shop a few days a week.
What is it about modifieds that now we’ve seen you stick with it for a couple seasons?
We like the traveling. We like going to different tracks. You’re not at the same track every week, and the organization is really good. All the guys that we race against are a great bunch of people to race against.
It’s safe to say we’ll see you back in 2024?
We will 100% be back next year again.

Who is somebody that you consider a racing hero?
I would have to say when I was younger, I always looked up to my cousin (Jason Tremble) with helping him. He raced late models so I’d say I always looked up to him.
We’ve seen you run mini stocks, late models, and now modifieds. What else would you like to get behind the wheel of?
I’d have to say it probably be a pro late model. I haven’t gotten behind the wheel of one of them – either pro late model or super late model.
The more speed, the better, right?
Yep. You can never go too fast.
What would be a piece of advice that you would give to someone getting started?
I would say the biggest thing is practice a lot and don’t get discouraged. You’re not going to come out and win right away. It’s something that takes time and there’s a lot of people that you are going to be racing against that have years and years of racing.
