Showing consistency through the season, combined with putting the knowledge gained over the past couple years allowed Jason Keen to put it all together to be crowned the 2023 Just Foam It OSCAAR Modified Champion.
“My dad and my team are very excited about it,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “With this being my sixth year racing in the modifieds, we are very proud of the progress we have made and hope continue moving forward.”
Keen showed the speed capable in the No. 18 Modified in the JRS Auctions qualifying heats, picking up a series-leading six checkered flags alongside 13 top-five’s. He then turned that into consistency in feature action with six top-five’s and an average finish of 5.25.
Following such a solid campaign, Keen admits he does not have a particular favourite moment that stood out from the year, instead “enjoying most of the season” as a whole en route to scoring the title by a mere 10 points.
“It feels great to have such good results for the hard work that we have put in and this motivates us to work even harder,” he commented.
Keen knows he will have to keep stepping his program up, stating the competition is tough in the modifieds with “everyone’s times and lap speeds improving substantially” over the years.
“We have a lot we can still gain and are trying to make improvements on the car over the winter,” he added.
When the green flag does fly for the 2024 campaign in May, you can guarantee one of the tracks that Keen has circled is Flamboro Speedway after a feature win there in 2022.
“It is close to where we live,” he expressed. “We see a lot of our friends from racing in years past and my family and friends come to the Flamboro races. It was the first track that we got the car set up perfectly and won my first feature race.”
